TEN Questions with Matthew Morales

1. Can you please introduce yourself and tell us something about your book "Never Be Poor Again"
Answer: My name is Matthew Morales and no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t shake the “poor” out of me. I grew up poor, but tried so hard to get out of it. Yet no matter how many books I read, or seminars I went to, I just kept ending up in the same spot over and over again. This is that story. It’s not just another “how to get rich” book. First, can I just not be poor anymore? What does that take? Let’s start from there. So, this teaches what I learned, but rather than just tell you how to do it, I show you what happened to me when I didn’t follow the steps.
2. When did you get the thoughts of writing this book? i read the book blurb and i loved it, your writing style is commendable. You are amazing.
Answer: Wow, thank you! I appreciate the kind words. Originally it was just supposed to be a small ebook with a series of blogs I wrote teaching sales, or business plans, or finances. But as I began to write, it instead unfolded into a story. A story I didn’t even know needed telling until I started.

3. What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
Answer: To be honest, this book came from a lifetime of research. I was reading all the books and going to all the seminars and just kept failing. This book was the opposite. It was just me speaking from the heart, and showing the steps I ignored on the way out of poverty. I just started writing, and it just flowed out of me. Most of the lessons were just burned in the back of my mind at this point.

4. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
Answer: I didn’t even realize I was a writer. I was just trying to teach and relay a message, and somehow the words just took over me. Now I feel proud and confident to call myself not just a writer, but an Author. Something I didn’t really expect.

5. Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?
Answer: Now that I write I will probably write a bunch of different styles, and genres. I’d love to write a magical realism book, as well as a spiritual workbook. So who knows, maybe you will see different series to different genres from me.

6. What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?
Answer: Growing up I was obsessed with Martin Luther King Jr. he was a phenomenal speaker, and the way he spoke touched my heart. I’ve always wanted to speak as beautifully as he did to the whole world. Since as young as I could remember.

7. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
Answer: It’s one of my favorite things!! I get lots of questions, and people telling me who my ideas have taught or inspired them. It’s one of my favorite things to answer random questions I get. Sometimes spiritual sometimes philosophies.

8. How would you express your journey as an Author?
Answer: New, beautiful, exciting, fun, fulfilling, vibrant, easy, messy, miserable, challenging, draining, and dingy.

Yet worth every moment.

9. What other things do you love than this writing?
Answer: I love to sing and play guitar and write music. Read medical research journals, study scientific, sacred texts and religions, and lots and lots of art. I’m obsessed with learning and expressing.

10. And last, What advice do you have for writers?
Answer: the first draft is always prewriting. It’s supposed to be ugly, and messed up, and crappy. That’s where the outline comes from.
Write happy scenes when you’re happy, angry scenes while you’re angry, sad scenes while sad. Put your feelings into the page and then make it work for your story.
You’re not doing it wrong, you’re just trying to do it all by yourself. Hire the professional help when you need it.

TEN Questions with Melissa Reeves

1. Can you please introduce yourself and tell us something about your book "And Then I Laughed" Answer:  My name is Melissa and I am a single widow of four young children who are my reason for everything I do. I love being creative and have loved to write since a young age. Introducing myself feels strange right now. I am still in the process of rediscovering who I am in the midst of being a widow and a mother, a journey I think all mothers face. I am much more interested in the company I keep than where I want to be. It doesn't matter where I go, as long as I am around people I love. I spent many years traveling, being very mobile and sometimes homeless so I enjoy my little house and the stability and coziness it gives my family. Maybe one day I will be open to exploring again, but for now I am enjoying the calm of four walls.  2. When did you get the thoughts of writing this book?  Answer:  This book, And Then I Laughed, is the cul...
