1. Can you please introduce yourself and tell us something about your book "Big Man Small Europe."
I'm from the mountains of Colorado & love to be outdoors. But besides nature, I love cities & places of all types. I'm a creator & feel like I'm always working on multiple projects. Big Man Small Europe is my first published poetry book & is a time capsule of sorts that captures some of my most memorable experiences in some of the coolest places that I've been lucky enough to visit.
2. When did you get the thoughts of writing this book? i read the book and i loved it, your writing style is commendable. You are amazing.
I appreciate your kind words. I'm always writing & happened to be traveling at the time this book came about. I had a bunch of poems & thought that I could make a book out of them. I tried it & after about a year, it became what it is today.
3. What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
I consider my life experiences research. Whatever it is that I'm doing or learning counts. Poetry is experience so everything's game.
4. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
That once it's done & out there, it's really hard to get it out there. Promoting anything is tough, from business to books. I'm not discouraged though. If I'm happy with my work (which I am) then I'm content. If anyone else likes it or gets inspired, thank you. That's my biggest hope-- that someone gets enjoyment or is inspired to do their own thing.
5. Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?
Not sure yet on this question.
6. What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?
Listening to music probably. My parents listened to a lot of stuff so I was exposed to everything from the Doors & the Grateful Dead to Eminem & Jay-Z. I think music really inspired me to both take on music & writing from an early age.
7. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
Sometimes. Anytime I do, it's amazing & I appreciate it. Lots of the questions or comments are about how I did it or about the cover. The cover is by Ricardo Cavolo & is one of my favorite art pieces.
8. How would you express your journey as an Author?
By taking it a day at a time. It's good to have plans & goals & all that but at the start & end of the day, you're living the day. So, I don't know exactly what my journey has been or what it will be but I intend to keep doing it. Keep exploring, keep writing, keep living.
9. What other things do you love than this writing?
Doing stuff with friends & family. Sports & music. Also, I'm working on this app called Stalgia. It's a collaborative journal & something I'm really excited about. Check out thestalgiaapp.com.
10. And last, What advice do you have for writers?
Be honest & write to entertain yourself. The rest will come. If you have fun, then it's a success. All the other cliches too. Be yourself-- you're the only one with your voice & experiences.
