1. Can you please introduce yourself and tell us something about your book "The void between words."
Answer - My name is John Crawshaw. Born in the UK in 1969 and being dyslexic, I had never read a novel in 50 years. With my inherent fear of words, low self-esteem and confidence, I could never understand the joy of reading or writing.
The Void Between Words, charts my turbulent life, my fight to overcome my mental health issues and my complete surprise when I couldn’t contain my overwhelming urge to write a novel at the age of 50.
2. When did you get the thoughts of writing this book? i read the book and i loved it, your writing style is commendable. You are amazing.
Answer - It took a lifetime of angst and anxiety to write this book. I think it was always bursting to come out. Writing it has enabled me to become free.
3. What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
Answer - It’s my memoir. It was all in there, like ripe cherries on a tree, ready to be picked
4. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
Answer - The biggest surprise, was that I could write. It’s as simple as that!
5. Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?
Answer - The novel, ’The Swing’ will be coming out in a few weeks, they are obviously linked. You can read either first, but the `Void, sets the scene for The Swing. I recommend reading both together.
6. What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?
Answer - When I wrote my first 2000 words, I broke down and cried. It was a revelation.
7. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
Answer - I have the most incredible readership. I always want to hear, what readers think of the book and they are always eager to get in touch. Many have become friends and some have been inspired to turn their lives around too, and use some of the techniques I use to overcome my difficulties.
8. How would you express your journey as an Author?
Answer - Surprising, liberating and life changing. I never dreamt I could do it.
9. What other things do you love than this writing?
Answer -I enjoy reading now. Other people’s words are so inspiring. I love this new found joy. I also enjoy being immersed within nature and communicating with trees. In the book, I discover my ability to talk with them and how they helped me turn my life around. My belief, is that anyone can do the same. Try it!
10. And last, What advice do you have for writers?
Answer - Just write. Anything. Some things will stick and don’t worry about connecting ideas straight away. Just get your thoughts down and it will unfold.
