1. Can you please introduce yourself and tell us something about your book "Alnitak"
Answer - Hello Friends readers! Let me introduce myself: I'm Oliver, I'm 48. I am a great lover of reading and after many years, the dream that had remained closed in a drawer, was able to see the light and I was able to publish my first book "Alnitak: the Orion Belt". The book is a sci-fi set in the year 2150. It tells the story of how mankind, after the destruction of the Earth, had to find another planet to live in even if in extreme conditions. It tells of the relationship between the Queen mother and her son in the fight against evil in a succession of twists.
2. When did you get the thoughts of writing this book? i read the book and i loved it, your writing style is commendable. You are amazing.
Answer - First of all, I thank you for the compliments that are the spice of life for a writer! The idea for the book comes from far away. I loved (and I love) reading Stephen King and Isaac Asimov's books and I empathized with them by imagining when they were writing. From there was born the idea of the book that reached its end during 2020 (in the middle of the Covid crisis). In the book I tried to keep a high pace that would entice the reader to "devour" the pages in the course of events.
3. What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
Answer - I think that writing a book requires two main things: ideas and refinement of these. The refinement of ideas then develops by researching in the history of man (for example the Orion belt, where the book is set, is very linked to the Egyptian culture, of which I am very passionate) and in the vision and research on scientific bases of way of life that man will have in the future.
4. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
Answer - I believe that writing a book you learn many things (as well as when you read one). The research of the topics, the description of the setting, giving life to the characters, gave me the opportunity to identify with them and it often happened to me during the writing of the book to find myself "next" to them and directly experience the same emotions and experiences.
5. Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?
Answer - “Alnitak” is the first of a trilogy that will see the protagonists grow in their life experiences. Probably, as readers have asked me, there will also be a pre-sequel where the events that brought the protagonists to the beginning of the story will be told.
6. What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?
Answer - When I first read Stephen King's "IT". It is an incredible book that manages to be transported back in time as if everything were real. Stephen King has this tremendous ability and my hope is to be able to somehow convey the same emotions to readers. Unlike a film, where the narration is visible, in a book it is the reader who has to create his own world and only a book (and music) can make you do this.
7. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
Answer - Readers are essential for a comparison on your way of writing, on how you propose your ideas. It happens sometimes, as I told you earlier about a pre-sequel book, that they also manage to give you some great ideas about future projects. The readers really liked how the characters are represented in the book and this helps me a lot on how to propose the new protagonists in the books following “Alnitak”.
8. How would you express your journey as an Author?
Answer - This is the most difficult question for an author. First we should ask ourselves what a writer/painter/singer is looking for. Fame? Success? Notoriety? I think that those who decide to devote themselves to an art (I consider it art not a job) do it above all for themselves, to seek within themselves a unique and unforgettable experience that they can share with others.
9. What other things do you love than this writing?
Answer - I am a great lover of history in general. What happens in the past greatly affects everything we are experiencing now. The same happens in the book: the protagonists live an adventure generated by the events that preceded them. I also love art and specifically modern painting. Being able to express emotions, discussions and thoughts with abstract art is really difficult and some painters are truly extraordinary. I have a lot of respect for these artists and their ability.
10. And last, What advice do you have for writers?
Answer - Many writers keep their dream in the drawer: that of being able to publish a book! From my experience (albeit brief) I can advise you to open up to the world and to all readers. Positive and negative reviews are both very helpful to the writer's work. Publish your book! Culture is the strength of civilization!
