TEN Questions with Victoria Day-Joel

1. Can you please introduce yourself and tell us something about your book "New Beginnings"

Answer - I’m a new author, published by Olympia Publishers in London, India and USA, fortunate to be available to readers worldwide. Poetry Inspired by Oliver 2018 and New Beginnings 2020.
New Beginnings is my experiences, hopes and dreams, describing nature, new relationships and searching for my dream home in Spain.
2. When did you get the thoughts of writing this book? i read the book and i loved it, your writing style is commendable. You are amazing

Answer - Thank You. It’s very much a natural process, I feel it’s my most beautiful book capturing an exciting period, full of life and love. As poetry is based on my own experiences, it is deeply personal and transient as life is.
.

3. What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?

Answer - I must say I would procrastinate if I had to research, I let my poems take their own form and they become a collection.

4. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

Answer - You put your whole self, delving deep into your psyche which can make you feel quite vulnerable when writing. But ultimately we are all having our own unique human experience and it’s the connection to my readers through my words that brings me joy and is a beautiful surprise when someone connects with my writing.

5. Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

Answer - Both books follow chronologically so I purposely worked with the design team to mirror the front covers with a human form silhouette and the starry skies. But either can be read independently.
I am writing a third book which is taking a slightly different format with more writing and less poems and starts from childhood. I imagine this to be the third in the series.

6. What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?

Answer - Writing is a magical tool but I didn’t know I had a gift for writing or that my words had power. Personal words that connect to the heart are the most striking. A bookmark my Nan wrote a personal message on when I was young ‘May you enjoy many hours with your books’ who would know how significant that would be all those years on now that I’m a published author!

7. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?

Answer - I love feedback and ultimately the journey as an unknown author starts with supportive friends and family.
I got stopped by a man in my hometown Cirencester in the Cotswolds who said my writing reminds him of Anais Nin, that was a beautiful comment. My biggest fans have read my book over and over, I love that.

8. How would you express your journey as an Author?

Answer - An unconventional one, I only discovered I could write age 39, I didn’t know I was any good! I wrote love poems inspired by my friend and muse and felt to strongly that they shouldn’t be locked in a journal and needed to get them published, my first book was a declaration of love. I felt as if I were sending off my most personal thoughts and desires off to a stranger to read, wondering what was I doing? I sent them off to Olympia and the rest was history.

9. What other things do you love than this writing?

Answer - I volunteer house and animal sitting which suits my restless nature, I love being in nature, waking, meditating, reading, crystals, reiki as I’m a healing practitioner that brings me into balance, I also love music, vegetarian food and sunshine!

10. And last, What advice do you have for writers?

Answer - Write your heart and soul and don’t give up, remember you are good enough.
